Getulio Alviani

Getulio Alviani, an Italian artist born in 1939, was originally a painter who became interested in the dimension and spacial properties of a work. This aluminum on wood work, Superficie A Testura Vibratile Opera Programmata 4019, exhibits this concept by breaking the two-dimensional surface of a hanging wall piece and physically entering into the viewer's space.

Alviani's art explores the interaction of art and perception. The reflection of light from the varying protrusions of the aluminum creates and encourages the viewer's interaction with the artwork via visual perception. The color that radiates from the work varies depending on the warm or cool light shined on it. The result is a vibrant play of color, light, and space as the reflections bounce in various directions from the work and confront the viewer. Alviani's work often explores industrial production, as seen with his use of aluminum.
